ESOS Requirements
The Australian Federal Government regulates higher education through the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Legislative Framework. This protects your rights by ensuring that the education you will receive will be the highest quality and that you will be treated fairly. It ensures our professionalism, reliability and ethical standards, which all our staff uphold and all our policies and procedures reflect.
For full details of the National Code of Practice, see: Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Framework – Department of Education, Australian Government.
MHE intends to register all its courses with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS). MHE does all it possibly can to make sure that any education agents it uses understand Australian international education, obey all Australian laws and act with honesty and integrity.
MHE will never promote or offer any course to overseas students unless it is registered with CRICOS. All advertisements for MHE courses will state the CRICOS code for that course, or else clearly state that the course is available for domestic students only. We will always make sure that any information from MHE which overseas students can see, including material supplied through an education agent, is never false or misleading, that it is written in plain English and that it helps students make well-informed decisions about their education. In particular, advertising for overseas students must never be false or misleading regarding:
- First trimester: 9th – 11th March
- Second trimester: 29th June – 1st July
- Third trimester: 19th – 21st October
Orientation is compulsory for all new students. It is your opportunity to familiarise yourself with what it means to be a higher education student and how to thrive here. You will receive a valuable opportunity to meet key staff and your classmates and become part of the MHE community. Features of Orientation include:
- Relationships between MHE and other people or organisations for delivering the course.
- Any work-integrated learning involved in the course.
- Entry requirements
- Employment outcomes
- Citizenship or permanent residency outcomes.
Letters of Offer will explain overseas students’ requirements under the ESOS Framework. When a new student enrols, MHE will enter into a written
agreement with the new student, which the student must accept no later than that the time they pay tuition fees. MHE will help overseas students adjust to study and life in Australia by providing services related to students’ safety, welfare, legal rights and transition to Australian student life.
MHE will support overseas students to ensure that they are able to complete their course within the duration stated on their Confirmation of Enrolment. MHE will monitor overseas students’ progress and provide ongoing support when necessary.
MHE must make sure that all information it holds about overseas students is up-to-date and accurate. MHE will keep copies of the signed agreement and receipts for tuition fees for at least two years after the student finishes studying at MHE.
Students have the right to appeal any ruling against them, first internally and then externally.
